OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Today, the Chevrolet Malibu was named Motor Trend magazine’s Car of the Year, marking the third consecutive year that Chevrolet has won one of the magazine’s prestigious awards.
Previously, the Chevrolet Tahoe earned the magazine’s Truck of the Year award in 1996, and the Chevrolet Blazer won the same award in 1995.
"Chevrolet is thrilled to be recognized a third time by Motor Trend for a vehicle that is aimed at one of the largest segments of the market," said John G. Middlebrook, Chevrolet General Manager. "The Motor Trend Car of the Year award is a great way to launch an all-new car, so new, in fact, that we began shipping Malibus to dealers earlier this week."
The 1997 Malibu offers buyers a high quality, reliable, dependable, five-passenger midsize sedan. Starting at $15,995, Malibu presents great value with an extensive standard equipment list, including, anti-lock brakes, 4-speed automatic transmission with second-gear-start capability, air conditioning, PassLockTM theft-deterrent system, covered auxiliary power outlet (for accessories such as cellular phones), AM/FM stereo radio, tilt steering wheel, dual air bags, battery rundown protection and platinum tipped spark plugs and extended-life coolant designed to last 100,000 miles.
Chevrolet’s 4,400 dealers have already ordered about 50,000 Malibus.
